Consci-fan-mo: Age 7 years: Sci-fi x Fantasy

Consci-fan-mo came into being in October 2008.
It is a friendly, affectionate community whose members know how to behave themselves and are very supportive of each other.

Its current owner no longer feels able to give it the attention it deserves - even though it served her faithfully through difficult times. She (the current owner) is upset to be doing this, but hopes a new owner will be able to give it the attention it has been sorely lacking the last couple of years.

Hello, good morning, and welcome. Not many rules this year, so this ought to be simple.

This year's fest will run from 1st December to the 21st December.

Prompters
Usual types of prompts will be acceptable: fandom, image, and lyrics/quotes.

I'm not going to be making master posts of groupings so if you could limit pictures prompts to 2 images of a size that isn't likely to break the page, I'd be grateful.

...but tomorrow is in danger of *really* ( getting away from me ). So here are this year's not-so-last-minute final instructions.

Prompters

I, for one, would be absolutely stuck without all the wonderfic people who turn up to leave us prompts. Seriously, you guys are great! As usual, I'm really hoping each and every one of you will get at least one response for one of your prompts, but there really isn't any guarantee. Please accept my apologies in advance if it doesn't work out for you this year. Hopefully there'll be lots of other bitsize goodies for you to feast on.

And talking of bitesize goodies, once you've read something, please don't forget to feed the writers with a comment?

Writers

Each contribution should be made as a NEW post to the community - NOT as comments to this post - and placed behind a cut. Fake cuts to your own journal are fine, as is cross-posting wherever else you like. If you do cross-post, mention of consci_fan_mo would be much appreciated.

The User Info is there to be helpful, please use it if you're unsure about anything. If any of the instructions in there - especially with regards to tagging - read like gibberish to you, or LJ won't let you create a new tag? Feel free to use the "i need a tag" tag and I will beetle along and sort you one out as soon as I can.
Please don't use any tag that starts mod!tag.

Last Chance Call for Prompts

I can almost see this backfiring, and the prompts lists going from 'small, but perfectly formed' to 'OMG, how many?'

BUT (As I have to be up at obscene o'clock in the morning to transport one of my offspring somewhere, and am unlikely to go back to sleep after*.)

You can have till Tuesday night - 20th November at 20:00 GMT - to add your prompts to the appropriate list.

I will put up the prompts lists tomorrow, and update them on Wednesday (if necessary).

Belated helloo to consci_fan_mo 2012. You may now go forth and multiply (aka pimp in your own journals) as much as you like.

This year our concise month of science fiction and fantasy related fiction will run from December 1st to December 21st.

In preparation, prompts open NOW (translation: if you are reading this, you may leave a prompt) and will close on Saturday 17th November at midnight (GMT). This is so I can use that Sunday to compile lists/tables of prompts and put them up Monday 19th. That way all the lovely folk who work better to a prompt can have some fic ready for posting by December 1st.

Please, do NOT hotlink.

Your prompt picture does not have to be an image from a tv show/movie, it can be anything:

A sunset, a landscape, a silly street sign, an article of clothing (person optional), a curious object (or an ordinary object in an extraordinary setting), a painting, even an LOL cat if you think it will inspire someone.

Be sensible with image sizes:

Some people do still use dial up; images should be 480 pixels wide or tall, MAXIMUM. If you don't have access to a graphics program to resize, post a link and I will sort something out.

You may post up to 5 images; use as many comments to do that as you think you need.

Be sensible with content:

No images of children.
No NC17 rated manips.

If you want to post an original image from deviantART or similar PLEASE ask for permission from the artist before you reproduce it here. I will check that people have done this!

You can leave up to 5 prompts for any fandom you wish.

Please comment with a fandom, a character/characters/pairing, a prompt word/words. Where more than one character is specified please use a comma or a slash as appropriate to denote whether they should be a couple or not. Please - for the sake of my fingers, if not my sanity - separate the elements with a semi-colon.

For example:

SPN; Sam, Dean; jelly - means Sam and Dean are NOT sexually and/or romantically involved with each other.

Dr Who; Four, Dalek/Cyberman ; romance - means the Dalek and the Cyberman ARE sexually and/or romantically involved, while Four is there just as another character.

Warehouse 13/Suits; Steve/Mike/Pete; pyramid - means Steve, Mike and Pete are ALL sexually/romantically involved (though not necessarily all together at the same time).

In addition, fandoms not sci-fi or fantasy related may be prompted for AS LONG as the prompt itself is of an AU nature.

In which I interrupt our annual hiatus for an announcement

After all the DDoS attack insanity that hit LJ during the second half of both of the last couple of years, I'm planning on importing this community to Dreamwidth at some point during March. That way, no matter what happens, everyone should have at least one place they can participate.

What this means (taken from Dreamwidth's FAQ)
Community posts and comments, once imported, will display as having been made by the OpenID identity accounts of the original posters. This means that the original posters can log into Dreamwidth with their credentials from the original site and continue to manage their posts and comments with the same level of control.

A brief aside. Apparently you can now claim your Open IDs. Which might be useful for those people, like myself, who have different names in each place. Or not at all useful. I can't decide...

Back to the news.
Once an entry has been imported, editing the entry may change the order it's displayed in the community. This is a side effect of the way imported entries are dated in order to keep them from flooding subscribers' reading pages. To avoid this happening and to keep the entries in proper order in the community, avoid editing the entries after they've been imported. Not that I think anyone will need to edit an entry they made last year, but still.

If anyone has any strong objections, now is the time to let me know - PM/email/comment are all fine.
